Organization of CRYPTREC
The organization of CRYPTREC(FY 2009-2012) was composed of the Cryptographic Scheme Committee, the Cryptographic Module Committee, and the Cryptographic Operation Committee, which were positioned under the Advisory Board for Cryptographic Technology, as shown in the following chart (Ref. The present organization since FY 2013, The organization during FY 2003-2008).

Advisory Board for Cryptographic Technology

The Advisory Board for Cryptographic Technology examines, from comprehensive viewpoints, monitoring of e-Government recommended ciphers; it handles investigation/examination for assurance of security and reliability of e-Government recommended ciphers, amendment to the e-Government Recommended Ciphers List, and also performs activities for international standards relating to cryptographic modules.

The Advisory Board for Cryptographic Technology holds session as a study meeting of Director-General for ICT Strategic Policy Planning of MIC, and the Director-General of Commerce and Information Policy Bureau of METI, in which the Cabinet Secretariat, the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications(MIC), the Ministry of Justice, the Foreign Ministry, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, the Ministry of Economy , Trade and Industry(METI) and the Ministry of Defense participate as the observers.

Cryptographic Scheme Committee

The Cryptographic Scheme Committee is positioned under the Advisory Board; it carries out monitoring of e-Government recommended ciphers, as well as investigation/examination placing focus on cryptographic algorithms related to e-Government recommended ciphers.

Also, the Cryptographic Techniques Study WG has been established, under the Committee, to engage in examination activity aimed at assisting the activities of the Committee.

The Cryptographic Scheme Committee holds session as a committee meeting of NICT and IPA, in which the MIC, METI, the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, etc., participate as observers.

The Cryptographic Scheme Committee was set up in FY 2009 as the successor of The Cryptographic Technique Monitoring Subcommittee, which operated from FY 2003 through FY 2008.

Cryptographic Module Committee

The Cryptographic Module Committee is positioned under the Advisory Board; it engages in examination toward the establishment of security and test requirements for cryptographic module products conforming to e-Government recommended ciphers, paying attention to the trend of international standards, such as ISO/IEC, and considering the possibility that these requirements may be used as the standard for governmental procurement in the future.

In addition, the Committee investigates and examines side channel attack and tampering in relation to cipher implementing technique, aiming to contribute to improvement of the above-mentioned security and test requirements.

The Cryptographic Module Committee holds session as a committee meeting of NICT and IPA, in which the MIC, METI, the National Police Agency, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defense, etc., participate as observers.

The Cryptographic Module Committee was set up in FY 2009 as the successor of The Cryptographic Module Subcommittee, which operated from FY 2003 through FY 2008.

Cryptographic Operation Committee

The Cryptographic Operation Committee is positioned under the Advisory Board; it carries out investigation/examination for an appropriate operation of e-Government recommended ciphers from the viewpoints of system designers and system providers.

The Cryptographic Operation Committee holds session as a committee meeting of NICT and IPA, in which the MIC, METI, etc., participate as observers.

The Cryptographic Operation Committee was newly-created in FY2009.
